Dwyer Fine Art.
Three generations of the Dwyer family have been actively involved in the art business for more than 135 years, accumulating invaluable knowledge, contacts, respect and expertise.
Jon's grandfather, Thomas Dwyer commenced in the art business in 1920, developing long standing relationships with artists that have become household names including the likes of Arthur Streeton. Thomas Dwyer established many friendships with the early collectors in the infancy of the Australian market.
Jon's father, Paul Dwyer was in the business for over fifty years, primarily with Leonard Joel. Paul was at the helm of the Joel’s Art Department in the 1970’s and 1980’s, when Joel’s enjoyed supremacy in the Australian marketplace.
Paul Dwyer was instrumental in conducting the vast majority of the cornerstone sales during the infancy of the Australian Art market. Under Paul's stewardship, the sales of the collections of George Page Cooper, Sir Hans Heysen, and Charles Ruwolt, just to name a few, were to impact significantly on the domestic market. During Paul’s time with Joel’s he instigated the now famous ‘Malvern Town Hall’ auctions in the 1970’s and 1980’s that were acknowledged as the ‘barometer for Australian Art’.
Paul Dwyer is a recognised pioneer in the Art industry and one of the first Art consultants of the modern era.
Jon Dwyer is now in his 38th year in the art business. Jon's early professional years in art were working at Leonard Joel’s, where he eventually headed up the Art Department. Over the years, Jon established himself as Australia's leading expert in Art. After some 19 years at Joel's he then joined Christie's. At Christie's, working in Australia, the UK and USA, Jon was a Director, Head of Valuation and Business Development and later, Head of the Australian and International Painting Department.
Jon is an approved valuer for the Australian Government Cultural Gifts Program and a
registered valuer and member of the Art Consulting Association of Australia.
